HI, I’m Juli, and this blog is dedicated to helping you and I stay sober.

I created Midlife Sober Girl to talk openly about life after alcohol…the weird, the hard, and the amazingly great.

After 30 years, lots of tries, and more than one rock bottom, I finally did it. I created a life I love that doesn’t include alcohol. Enough was enough. I was wasting my precious life drinking, thinking about drinking and detoxing from drinking. Mortality motivation is a powerful tool.

Like a lot of us, even though I was a chubby, insecure teen, battled an eating disorder in my twenties and have leaned into alcohol as a crutch for way too long, I have always desired to be truly healthy and fit. But I couldn’t do that when wine bottles were hidden in my grocery cart under piles of organic produce and grass-fed meats. I thought, if I eat healthy and workout it will counter all the effects of alcohol. Yeah, Hard no.

But I didn’t know how to live without it. Until I did. This is the place for me to do that and share it with you.

Midlife Sober Girl Mission:

  • Removing toxins from alcohol (check), food, lifestyle products and thoughts.
  • Consuming the right stuff to heal our bodies from the damage of drinking too much.
  • Building up confidence and self-esteem
  • Helping other women stay in sobriety by talking about it.
  • Fight the stigma that alcohol use disorder / alcoholism is only a result of genetics and weakness.

My Resume

I am not a counselor or a coach or a sponsor or a unicorn. What I am is a success story, and maybe a mentor.

I am a daily work in progress, but I am sober indefinitely and have lost 35 pounds of dead weight including a protruding belly and a black cloud of despair. Everyone deserves freedom.

Midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear: I’m not screwing around here.

But I didn’t know how to live without (alcohol.) Until I did. This is the place for me to do that and share it with you along the way.
